AAC Updates Flight Area
You may have noticed on the radar (if you were taking notice) that there were a few static blips in a certain corner of the Sovereign sim over the last week or so. You may also have wondered what they were. Well, it could have very well been work being done to add new features to the flight school area high above Sovereign.
There has been steady work to fit the area out with a fully functional runway which includes the appropriate markings you would expect at an airport, plus a rezzer housing a few useful scenes including the very popular flight school course.
Commander Sodak Xeltentat gave a tour to those who attended the Wednesday AAC event, instructing us how the new editions were going to be used and the plans for the future.
If ever you want to have a quick fly around, there’s a rezzer with physical flight planes available. If you haven’t already given the area a visit or attended one of the AAC events throughout the week then give those events a try – all are welcome to participate.
Scheduled AAC Events
Wednesday 6:00pm SLT*
Sunday 9:00am SLT*
* SLT = SecondLife time. Same as (PST/PDT)
If you have a SecondLife® account and a SL viewer installed, click here for a teleport to the Flight Area.

Gryphon Jump
AAC events often follow a familiar pattern; jump in a plane and show off your piloting skills or hunt down the enemy in an all-you-can-eat dog fight. Alternatively you could jump out of the USS Paris, 1500 meters to the bullseye target which has been placed below in the Sovereign sim.
AAC Sigma lead Kaori Juliesse thought, “Hey, what would happen if we combined the two?” and thus was born the Bail Out of a Gryphon Event.
The first time this was played out a Gryphon pilot took a passenger to 500 meters altitude. The passenger would be the first to jump out followed by the pilot who would delink their ship by using the single command in chat “die”.
Now, unknown to some, the Gryphon has a system built-in called AWADS (Automatic Weapon Area Deactivation System) This system automatically disables weapons in specific area’s in the GFC sims. One of the other global commands if you know how to instigate it is to destroy by delinking any Gryphon rezzed in the sim all at once. Sigma Lead Kaori flips the switch on that to see how prepared we were and how quickly we could react to suddenly falling to the ground as our ship disintegrated beneath us.
Those who participated had a good time parachuting down to the target, there was the odd person landing in the water with an almighty splash, but most hit the target thankfully.
Gryphon jumping is a fun event and I’m sure we’ll see it and variations of it in AAC events in the future.
Be sure to check out the video of one of our pilots, delinking, parachuting out and landing bang on the bullseye. Bravo!
