GFC 10th Anniversary Ball – Back to the 1920’s
On January 16th 2016 GFC celebrated the 10th anniversary Ball. The theme was 1920s. Due to a theme change few weeks before the ball, the organisation team, around Social Events Lead Sereana Westland, had not much time to prepare the ball.
The event took place in the Galaxy Roddenberry Centre. The guest were asked to enter the building via the back entrance from the headquarters building. Above the entrance to the HQ, a marquee was placed announcing the ball. On the way to the back entrance, the guests went past the Memorial.
Obviously there was a time tunnel between the Memorial and Roddenberry Centre, cause when entering the final building you suddenly found yourself on a street in front of a theater. The tricorders scanned the old cars as well the look and feel confirmed that we were in the 1920’s. There was another set of stairs on the other side of the street that we walked up and you saw another marquee above the entrance to the theater.
Following the carpet led you to the entrance halls decorated with flags. Behind the entrance hall, the main hall was decorated with tables. The curtain of the stage was closed. At 2 pm the program started with an introduction by Vice Fleet Admiral Mechanique. Followed by a small rp. It was about the Borg, Vulcan, Cardassian, Klingon, Gorn and others trying to invade the history but in the end a peaceful solution was found and the base for a glorious future as we all know it.
After the RP the main part of the ball started the ceremony to present the awards and promotion to the officers and their engagement in the last 6 month. Many members of the fleet were honoured and promised to continue the great work they do.
After the main ceremony the dancing party concluded the program of the ball.
At the end I like to thank the organisation team who helped that the ball can take place:

GFC establishing new outpost in Inworldz
GFC exists in Second Life now for more than 10 years. The fleet was growing and expanding with the time. The home of the fleet were 4 sims. Galaxy, Aeon, Constellation and Sovereign. Each of those sims had one main purpose. Galaxy is the main sim with focus on the administration part of the fleet. So it is the home of the headquarter, the Roddenberry Center and the academy. Aeon is the community sim with sandbox and galaxy market. Sovereign was focusing on role-play, while Constellation hosts a sci-fi village with rentals.
GFC is downsizing to go back to its roots to have only one sim. This sim will be rebuilt to be the home of all facilities. Those buildings will be inspired by the buildings the group called its home in 2007.
Beside Second Life more OpenSim grids get established in the metaverse, therefore it is logical that GalaxyFleetCommand establishes also a presence in other grids. That’s why it was decided to establish an outpost. The chosen grid is Inworldz.
Inworldz is one of the oldest and biggest grids in the metaverse and was forked out of OpenSim and is now a project on its own.
Currently GFC is guest on a Star Trek sim owned by Jace Alexander. On his Station GFC has an office on the promenade deck and is allowed to use the Federation Auditorium as well as some other facilities.
In February 2016 it is planned to establish an own sim named “Galaxy II”, which will serve as outpost for the fleet. All main activities will stay in Second Life and in the original Galaxy sim.
