The 2013 GFC Winter Ball
The GFC Winter Ball is once again the highlight of Galaxy in Second Life. This year, the event is all iced over and the Roddenberry Center is an ice sculpture of paradise!
Everyone has gathered 25 min before the Ball to drink, talk and meet. Vice Admiral JD Matova suddenly greets us with a call as he gathers everyone to the dinner tables while they eagerly await for the awards and promotions to be handed out.
Before the show begins, we find the flagship of the GFC fleet, the USS Ajax, to be diverted but still arriving on time to present the Admirals as they beam down into the Roddenberry Center, and the events start.
Many awards and promotion are handed out to people who have contributed a great deal of time an effort into building and maintaining GFC. At its conclusion, we are greeted with the magic of fireworks in Galaxy!
Our bi-annual event is joyful for all. The GalaxyFleetCommand Ball has been a long-standing unification event for all our members. This event we all put aside our differences of opinion and just enjoy a beautiful night under the stars of Second Life. It is here, that we celebrate all the people who work at sometimes tireless tasks to make it all happen.
Rich Merk, the Social Events Lead and Engineering Coordinator has worked hard at keeping these events inline together with several other members. Everyone in GFC puts together their time and effort behind this event to make it happen. The GFC Ball is and always will be the one time everyone can sit and enjoy the time.

The USS Ajax – The Flagship of the GFC Fleet
This Galaxy Class Starship has certainly stood the test of time. Through battles and wars and years and years of Role Play, most see the Ajax as just another ship. This is more than a ship, it is a figurehead for the fleet – a sign that anything can go on even if it takes damage.
The Ajax has had a few refits over the years. The first the bridge was primitive prim. Over the years, Timol McMillan rebuilt the entire set. Everything started with an idea and inspiration from Admiral Mechanique. His initial vision was to just build a Role Play set but the USS Ajax changed and turned into something more than just an RP.
As with every Trek series, it is in need of a crew, and the Ajax crew changes often. Within GFC, our ship crews are like family, where we all support each other.
As the Ajax RP ventures throughout the galaxy, the story has changed to become what the Ajax is known for today – the weekly continuation of a story. With the Admirals’s weekly Pre-Briefings, new ideas are brought to the table, and is often the first time new crew members are introduced to the idea behind the Trek RP.
The Pre-Briefing is an educational 30 minutes into the workings of a Galaxy Class Starship and other systems and functions. If you glance at just a day in the life of the Ajax crew, you can see the role-play fully developed down to the sneeze of an Ensign! The topical idea placed into the adventure puts everyone in the heart of the moment with the Admiral. Just like a real TV shows it’s all-exact to the facts.
Even though the crew may change, the Ajax RP may never end or be destroyed. The heart of the idea came from somewhere to find its light in the present day People from all reaches of Second Life have come to GFC to realize the dream.
We wish the USS Ajax many safe journeys.
